The LIDA Project
We are excited to announce that The LIDA Project is soon to be the newest, and first performance art based, tenant in The Space Creators family at The Laundry on Lawrence. Here's a quick description about who they are:
The LIDA Project is a meta-media art collective with a strong emphasis on live performance. The mission of the company is to present works that challenge the structure and presentation of performance while strengthening culture, community, and artistic growth. Working as a collaborative group of artists, The LIDA Project promotes and presents works of the highest integrity and expressiveness without yielding to conventional presentation and stereotypes.
The company was founded in 1995 by Artistic Director, Brian Freeland, and in that time has produced forty-seven plays, performances and happenings, including twenty-three new or adapted works and thirteen regional premiers. In the LIDA Project’s production history, LIDA has traveled nationally and internationally, bringing new and premiering works to Boulder, New York City, Chicago, London, Austin, and Atlanta; all with an attitude of cultural exchange and with the hope of continuing to uplift cultural commerce between Denver and other cities, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
In its sixteen years of producing history, LIDA has been recognized numerous Denver Drama Circle Critics, Ovation and Henry Award nominations and has been honored with special achievement awards in the local news media in the Denver Post, Westword, and the Rocky Mountain News. Artistic Director Brian Freeland received the Westword “Mastermind Award” in2009 for his contribution to local theatre. LIDA is set to announce its seventeen season, with two original scripted works, two ensemble-driven devised works, and a new smart phone 'play' app.
